Marijuana should be decriminalised.
I was against the decriminalisation of marijuana because of marijuana’s stigma for the record, I have never tried marijuana or wished to try it, and I most likely never will. However, after considering much economic, ethical, and scientific research concerning marijuana, I decided that society would benefit from the decriminalisation of marijuana and so should you.
If marijuana has never killed anyone (people kill people) nor has it been proven to be harmful to your health, why is it considered such a dangerous drug?
Ancient tribes smoked the stuff as a means of peace with their enemies, it has been proven to greatly benefit cancer patients and even reduces male’s sperm count (population control). Why is there so much negative stigma associated with it? And where did all these false "facts" come from?
Yet these crusaders invariably fail to tell the truth: That alcohol, tobacco and prescription drugs kill hundreds of thousands of Australians each year while marijuana hasn't killed anyone
There is no existing evidence of anyone dying of a marijuana overdose. Tests performed on mice have shown that the ratio of cannabinoids (the chemicals in marijuana that make you high) necessary for overdose is 40,000:1.

For comparison's sake, that ratio for alcohol is generally between 4:1 and 10:1. Alcohol overdoses claim approximately 5,000 casualties yearly, but marijuana overdoses kill no one as far as any official reports.
The criminalisation of marijuana does not prevent marijuana from becoming the most widely used substance in Australia and many other countries. But it did result in extensive costs and negative consequences.
Regulating and taxing marijuana would simultaneously save taxpayers billions of dollars in enforcement and incarceration costs, while providing many billions of dollars in revenue annually.
Why can't the government make it legal to smoke marijuana in bars that have a permit to sell it. Also the government should tax these establishment that sell marijuana. Bars and other places that sell with out permits would face big fines. Making it legal would take that wind out of many criminals.
In 2009, a study by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation in Britain indicated that relaxation of the cannabis laws could save police $95 million a year and vastly improve police and community relations.
You don’t agree with the lifestyles of those who smoke weed? Neither do I. Can you not stand hippies or stoners ? I can’t either, but that doesn’t mean they should be arrested, jailed, fined, and persecuted for their actions when they harm no one else. A free society such as ours should allow free citizens the freedom to partake in any activity that doesn't harm others.
